Product Description
Paramount U2 Rattle and Hum (Blu-ray)
A concert movie on an unprecedented scale. Rattle and Hum captures U2-on and off the stage-during their triumphant Joshua Tree tour. From the giant technicolor stadium celebrations to the black-and-white intensity of the indoor shows, this is U2 at their best. Follow the group across America, exploring new influences, playing with the legendary B.B. King, on a journey which takes them from Dublin to Graceland, from San Francisco to the streets of Harlem, from The Joshua Tree to Rattle and Hum.

Rattle and Hum is not a film for anyone looking for an introduction to Irish band U2's career in the 1980s, but it is a vibrant portrait of an established group making its musical pilgrimage through the America it has always imagined through blues, gospel, and early rock 'n' roll. Filmmaker Phil Joanou (Heaven's Prisoners), a veteran music-video director and maker of the distractingly kinetic Three O'Clock High, finds a suitable outlet for his high energy in this juggernaut of a journey, which finds U2 collaborating with a black gospel choir and B.B. King, recording inside the legendary Sun Records studio, dropping by Graceland, and in a moment of fearlessness, performing the Beatles' "Helter Skelter" to exorcise Charles Manson's sick claim on the song. --Tom Keogh

1 out of 5 stars "This song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles, now were steeling it back".   February 18, 2008

"This song Charles Manson stole from the Beatles, now were steeling it back".

Bono "singing" Helter-Skelter sounds incredibly unprofessional, he can't seem to get the timing or the lyrics right. Check it out if you get a chance it is ridiculous!
In my opinion remaking a Beatles song is a sin!
The pompous moron who calls himself Bono is the last person who should be remaking Beatles songs. Bono has always compared his inept, politically motivated band, U2 to the Beatles. If U2 were going to be the next Beatles they missed their window back in the Eighties! The Beatles did it in 7 Years; U2 has had 28 years to do it! Compare the two bands total Number 1 singles. U2, 4 UK and 2 US Billboard Hot 100. Yet the Beatles have released a 79 minute album called Beatles 1. This album contains 27 Number One Hits from a band that released their first studio album in 1963, Please Please Me, and their last studio album in 1970, Let it be. The Beatles had 7 years total time releasing original studio recorded music!

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   December 29, 2007

I recently purchased this for my Toshiba A2 HD DVD player. Although I have not seen the entire disc-what I have seen so far is disappointing-too grainy. I realize it was filmed in a dark concert hall. My 2 biggest complaints are:
1-angels of harlem-is in a small studio-not the concert footage (which I thought it would be.)
2-all I want is you-the last song on the DVD-is played while the credits are running!!

2 out of 5 stars Review of the HD DVD version only   December 17, 2007

Almost everybody knows how great this video is. Some versions of the songs are extraordinary. But as I said, everybody knows that.
I'm here to talk about exclusively of the HD DVD version which in my opinion is quite bad. I own the regular DVD and they both have the same video quality, which is not great. One should expect great video from an HD DVD, but this is not the case, so if you own the DVD don't bother. If you own the VHS, just buy the regular DVD. Oh, by the way I just have a 720p HDTV, so I haven't watch it on a 1080p HDTV, but I don't think it would make any difference.

Every fan of the irish band U2 must have this Blu-Ray Disc. The picture and sound quality is amazing.

1 out of 5 stars Video Quality is LOUSY!!   October 8, 2007

The video is awful! Grainy, and dark. Blu Ray ought to be about pristine HiDef video, but this disc looks worse than most standard def DVDs. Although the audio quality is reasonably good, it should be PCM lossless instead of DTS 6.1. After all, the whole point of buying this disc in Blu Ray format is about superior sound quality and video quality. Neither were particularly impressive to me. I guess die hard U2 fans will happily shell out for the BD version, but I wish I had passed on this one. Oh well, hopefully Bon will use his cut for a worthwhile cause!
