At first pleased, but then.... July 2, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was at first very pleased with this set. Great picture, great delivery from Amazon.
But then I began noticing 'burn-in' issues. The first I noticed was two vertical stripes, both about 5 inches in from the sides. Then I noticed that CNNHD was also burned in, even though I don't leave it on there for long periods of time. I also have the burn-in protection set, and I've run both the suggested fixes (all white and scrolling) with neither helping.
Contacted Samsung and they agreed that it shouldn't be happening. Currently waiting for local repair shop set up by Samsung to attempt a fix.
I wish i can give it a 4.5 June 28, 2008 I did alot of research on Plasma's on LCD TV's. I always felt plasma's look slightly better plus they were cheaper. I was worried about some of the horror stories i read on plasmas. Anyway i've had this TV for 2 months now. This what i think of it so far... Pros: Antiglare screen (does a good job even though my tv is in a bad spot) Picture- Very sharp looking with HD signals(Blue-ray and Cable HD Non-HD channels lookg pretty good too. Multiple Anti-Burn in tools- easy to use Price
Cons: Burn-in happens pretty fast. If something is on your screen for more then 15 mins it will get burned in.(But you can only see it on VERY light colors) Speakers kinda suck.(Most people who get this size tv get some kind audio system too though)
Even though this is probably just my bad luck but one of my pixels became stuck in blue. Hopefully it will be the only one.
Family is blown away June 24, 2008 We have searched high and low for the best tv we could find that would fit our budget. We wanted a brand we could trust. That is why we went with this tv. Packaging was great shipping was great. But the family was blown away with the first movie we watched on it (National Treasure2) We now all fight to who gets to use it.Set up was a breeze. We also use it for gaming. When we play 4 player games it is like watching a 4 seperate 20 inch screens.
Great Plasma TV! June 23, 2008 I did a lot of research before buying this product, including reviews on CNET and pricing trends. I also researched how much difference there would be between the 720p and the 1080p. Since programs are not shown in 1080p and won't be for a couple of years, that was not an issue. If you are not a blu-ray disc dvd owner, it also is not an issue. For me, having this as my first upgrade to a regular TV, I was blown away. The TV arrived in 4 days even though Amazon stated approx. 10 days. The TV was packaged well. As this 50" was going in my bedroom that has an ajacent wall that is entirely window (approx 10 ft X 8 ft) I was greatly concerned about the glare since I have no curtains of any type. Well the anti glare coating is perfect and I can watch TV any time of day with no problems. The colors are great and there are a lot of adjustments that can be made. Best Buy offers to go out and calibrate the TV for approx. $350. Save your money and do it yourself. You can spend as much time needed to tweak it as you spend more time in deciding what looks best for your taste. Definately need to have the cable box for Hi-Def or you are wasting your money on the TV. The Hi-Def colors and clarity are incredible. So I couldn't be any happier with my choice of TV and when I am ready for another 50" for the living room, I will buy the same TV or the 1080p if the price comes down more at year end. I highly recommend this TV
Read the 42" reviews as well June 17, 2008 Samsung PN42A450 42-inch 720p Plasma HDTV the 42" and 50" 450's are basically identical with the caveat that the posterization is easier to perceive on the 50" version, so the reviews there and elsewhere apply to this model (IMO).
