5 out of 5 stars kindle   July 20, 2008
Some advantages I see in my new Kindle:
1. never searching for a bookmark or the lost place in a book again
2. being able to writee in all my books without creating messy pages
3. being able to purchase new books anytime, anywhere
4. being able to adjust the size of my font so I am never unable to read another book just because of the size of the print
5. constantly having MANY unread books in my purse at all times so that I am never stuck without something to read
6. being able to download books as soon as they are published rather than having to ride around to find a bookstore that still has one available, that ever carried them at all, or even having to buy them online and wait the excruciating 2 weeks until they arrive
7. NO MORE POSTAGE for book deliveries EVER!!!!
8. long battery life!
9. I never have to think of another good excuse why I refuse to lend SOME people my books (returning with dogears, never returning, returning with food and deink stains, torn book jackets, and various and other crimes done to books I have loaned in the past!)
10. keep thinking of more so I am going to quit this list for now.

Disadantages I can see in my new Kindle:
1. overwhelming compulsion to order more and more and more books!
2. there is now a need in my life to find out how to email from Kindle, text (can you text with this thing?), and use my clippings and notes
3. even if I REALLY want to, I can not read random pages toward the end to see if this book is going to get any better (OK, that is really an advantage but it is a bad habit I miss at times)
4. having more time to read because of never being without something to read has increased the need for more books!
5. If you read the same as I do, you are constantly going back to check to see if you remembered some certain little thing that SEEMED insiginificant when you started reading, but now could have monumental importance to the meaning of what you have just read. With a real book, you can scan the last couple of chapters quickly and easily. With a Kindle, it is more difficult to refind the information unless you happened to mark it at that time.
6. The cost is significant when buying a Kindle.

i love my kindle....hubby now wants one... i read with passion and hubby's passion is reading.... only thing...the design to turn the page on the right is easy to hit when holding... needs an area to hold while reading... but i wouldn't give it back....if you love to read you will love the kindle... easy to read and so portable

5 out of 5 stars Impossible not to love...   July 20, 2008

Let me say first that I do love my Kindle. I'm an English teacher and the ability to highlight and annotate (all of it backed up by Amazon) is a good part of what sold me on the unit. I use it mostly for the books I teach in class and this coming school year should truly prove the Kindle's usefulness in this application.

But, I have to say that my Kindle broke within less than a week of having it. The sleep screen it was on ended up becoming part of the main screen and I could no longer read it. You might think this would diminish my love of Kindle, but my experience with Amazon reassured me that my money was well spent.

I called Amazon support. They had me perform several reset functions with the Kindle, all to no avail. Then I was told that a new Kindle would be sent to me, free of charge and when I got the new one, to send the old one back, no questions asked.

More important than my enjoyment of reading the New York Times every morning while drinking my coffee is the knowledge that in our sometimes seemingly impersonal world, GREAT customer service still exists.

Thank you Kindle and Enjoy yours.

5 out of 5 stars Will it work outside of USA?   July 20, 2008

I would buy this item, but I'm not sure whether Kindle will be working in Moldova: we don't have 3G, only GSM. Moreover it is expensive for me. May be I'll buy it one year, in order to have possibility to read electronic books on this device with paper-like monitor.
